Honda Civic EK Hatch Underbody Sealing
Honda Civic EK hatch underbody sealing, with rust spots treated, fresh protective coating applied and all body cavities waxed.
This Honda Civic EK hatch underwent underbody preparation and sealing as part of its ongoing restoration. The work covered the floorpan, wheel arches and exposed bodywork behind the front wings, with cavity wax also applied throughout the body cavities.
Access was an important part of the job. The front wings and suspension components were removed during the work, exposing hidden panels, seams and mounting areas for preparation and coating.
Areas of old coating were removed and the exposed surfaces prepared. Small rust spots were treated with rust converter before sealing. No welding was required, and no primer was applied.
Fresh black underbody coating was applied across the prepared surfaces, following the contours of the floorpan, chassis rails and wheel housings. With the front wings removed, the exposed panels above and around the front wheel arches could also be coated before reassembly.
Cavity wax was applied to all body cavities, extending the protection into enclosed sections beyond the reach of the external underbody coating.
The finished wheel arches have a consistent textured black appearance, while the coated floorpan and rear spare-wheel well give the underside a much tidier finish.
Reassembly brought together the Civic’s BC Racing coilovers, blue suspension components, rear brace and stainless steel exhaust. Against the freshly coated shell, these details complete the appearance of the underside.
The result is a refreshed underbody with protection applied to both the exposed surfaces and enclosed cavities, giving this Civic EK hatch a strong foundation for the next stage of its restoration.
